A Basic Principle of Healing: “First, Do No Harm.”

Hippocates

Greek physician Hippocrates (460 BC – 370 BC) author of the Hippocratic Oath for Doctors.*

The Greek healer, Hippocrates, set the first standards for medicine in the form of the Hippocratic Oath.

A basic principle of that oath was

“First do no harm.”

This ethic is meant to be the guide for whatever intervention a physician or healer uses to assist a patient to heal because …

the actual healing itself is done by the body.

For example, you accidentally cut your finger.  You may clean the wound and put an antiseptic on it, followed by a bandaid.

None of these things actually cause the cut to heal.  That work is done by the physical body itself.

  • Cleaning the wound and using an antiseptic remove bodies that may interfere with the physical body’s ability to repair the cut.
  • A bandaid, or bandage, assists by keeping the cut clean, and may hold the two sides of the cut together, thus making it easier for the body to reconnect the tissues as it repairs the wound.

This is similar to how Energy Healing helps you recover from an illness or an injury.

In Energy Healing, the facilitator’s (healer’s) primary responsibility is to support the body’s natural healing processes.

This is done in a number of ways.

  1. Removing energy blocks that may interfere in the healing process.
  2. Supporting the body energetically so that it has the energy it needs to do the repair work.
  3. Communicating clear intentions to the body so it understands the expectations and goals of the person whose body it is.
  4. Assisting the body to let go of energy patterns that are interfering with the healing process, such as trapped emotions, limiting beliefs, and distorted vibrational patterns.

A healing facilitator communicates with expert energy healers in higher realms who may be able to see or perceive subtle aspects of damage that are outside the third dimensional reality.

Full recovery may require that those damaged area be repaired as well.

A well-known example of this type of situation would be a damaged chakra.

A chakra is a spinning wheel of energy. The most well known chakras are along the spinal column.

There are also many chakras of varying sizes throughout the physical and other energy bodies.  Some chakras are part if the meridian system used in acupuncture and are called “acupuncture points.”

When a chakra is damaged or functioning improperly, a complete healing outcome may be compromised.

Each chakra may be a slightly different size, color and complexity, depending on where it is located in the body and the services it performs.

Chakras are a basic part of the energy anatomy of all conscious beings.

Humans and animals have chakras, and so do plants.

Mother Earth has chakras as well.

Within the physical body of a human or animal, the various organs and glands have chakras specifically designed to keep each one in balance and harmony by providing essential “life force” to that part of the anatomy.

When my cat Violet was diagnosed with early stage renal (kidney) failure, I discovered that one of her kidneys had a chakra that was misaligned and wasn’t able to function properly as a result.

By repairing Violet’s kidney chakra with energy healing, I assisted her kidney to function better.  Using muscle testing, I was able to increase the energetic ability of the kidney to function by more than 50%.

This contributed to Violet feeling more comfortable in her body for a longer time than she might have otherwise.

In all types of energy healing, “First, do no harm” remains an essential ethical principle.

What Makes an Energy Healer Powerful?

The quality of  her consciousness.

Spirit of Life

A healer is powerful when he or she:

  • Is a clear open channel for healing energies.
  • Has clearly focused intention.
  • Is grounded.
  • Is open to infinite possibilities.
  • Is heart-centered.
  • Is filled with integrity.

Let’s explore these qualities together.

  • A powerful healer is a clear open channel for healing energies.

To be a “clear open channel” requires that a healer continually works on herself to raise her consciousness and maintain her openness to receive and work with the highest frequencies possible.

This means that the person is committed to her own spiritual path and to their service as a healer.  Working on oneself includes, but is not limited to these activities.

  1. Eliminates limited thinking and beliefs that can interfere with bringing through healing energies.
  2. Knows how to manage her own emotions so that they don’t get “dumped” onto the one receiving the healing.
  3. Clears one’s own channels daily so that more energy and a wider variety of frequencies can be channeled for purposes of healing.
  4. Begins each session with a prayer asking to be a “clear channel” and ends each session by clearing herself, the healing space, and everyone in that space.
  • A powerful healer has clearly focused intention.

For a healer, a clear, focused intention requires three things:

  1. Knowing what your own intentions are as a healer.
  2. Asking the one receiving the healing to tell you their intentions
  3. Making sure that your intentions and your client’s intentions are aligned.

Aligning your intention as a healer with the intention of your client is very important because:

  • Putting your own intentions over those of the one receiving the healing violates higher law and creates karma for the healer.
  • Setting intentions that do not align with the life path and higher purpose of the one receiving the healing can cause problems for that being down the road.
  • Muddled intention leads to muddled results.

  • A powerful healer is grounded.

To heal, you must be grounded, meaning that your consciousness must be present in all parts of your own physical body and connected to the Earth!

The root chakra is actually IN the Earth.

The Root Chakra connects us energetically to the Earth.

  • A healer cannot heal issues in the lower parts of their own body unless she is willing to be fully present with therein.
  • To fully experience your life path, you have to be fully in all your energy bodies.
  • A powerful healer is grounded so she can assist her clients to also become grounded.
  • A powerful healer is Open to Infinite Possibilities.

Being open to infinite possibilities opens the door for miracles.

The Universe contains infinite stars. Created in the Divine Image, you and I are the expression of infinite possibilities.

By setting that intention, the healer gets him/herself out of the way so that healing can happen.

  • A powerful healer is heart centered.

The size of your heart’s magnetic field is so enormous that you affect everyone with whom you come into contact.

Being consciously heart centered means you are more likely to offer Divine Love and Compassion to your clients, and that is the basis for powerful healing.

  • A powerful healer is filled with integrity.

“Integrity” means having coherence within yourself because all your “parts” are fully integrated.

“Integrity” means that you say what you mean, mean what you say, and follow through with your commitments.

“Integrity” means telling yourself the truth about yourself.  “To thine own self be true.”  Only when you do that, can you be honest with others.

“Integrity” is necessary for trust.  If you have integrity, all parts of you trust yourself, and others can trust you, too.  To be a powerful healer, you must be trustworthy.

How to decide if a healer is the best match for you.

When seeking an energy healer, you can determine to what degree someone meets these criteria by asking your body to help you sense or feel whether the person is a good match for you, your animal, or another family member.

  • You can use muscle testing, a pendulum, or just tune into your own body.
  • Think of the healer you are considering contacting.
  • Go through the list of characteristics and ask, in each case, to what degree you feel this person meets the criteria.

This will help you choose the best possible person to assist you.
